The Warrior Goddess Within
May 20 – 23, 2027
A Four-Day Artist Retreat in New York City & Brooklyn for women over 50.
This is not a sightseeing tour. It's an invitation to step into the rhythm of an artist's life in New York and Brooklyn—to make, move, observe, talk, and see the city through the people who create in it.
Over four days, we'll explore the warrior goddess in each of us: the part that knows how to begin again, take up space, meet change with courage, and imagine what comes next. Through found-object art, fabric, and sculptural techniques, we'll turn materials with histories of their own into works that speak to our strength, our stories, and our hopes for the future.
We'll also visit working artists in their studios, spend time in galleries you might not have thought to seek out, and discover tucked-away corners of the city through a local, creative lens. The goal isn't to check off landmarks—it's to experience New York as a place where artists live, work, experiment, and find inspiration in the everyday.
Thoughtful conversations will open space to consider the next phase of life: what we're ready to leave behind, what we want to carry forward, and what we're curious to create. Gentle exercise, time to rest, and moments of quiet are woven into the days, making room to notice how movement can spark ideas and relaxation can help them unfold.
- Day OneArrive, Settle, Begin: Ease into the retreat with gentle movement, creative prompts, and a welcoming conversation about the warrior goddess within. Begin noticing the textures, fragments, and unexpected materials that might inspire your work.
- Day TwoFound Objects & Hidden Stories: Create with found objects, exploring how discarded, ordinary, or overlooked materials can hold memory and meaning. Visit a working artist's studio and experience the city not as a visitor passing through, but as a maker paying attention.
- Day ThreeFabric, Form & the Creative Life: Experiment with fabric and sculptural techniques, playing with softness, strength, structure, and transformation. Visit thoughtfully chosen galleries and creative spaces, with time for conversation, movement, and rest between discoveries.
- Day FourWhat Comes Next: Bring your explorations together in a final creative reflection. Share what you've made, consider the possibilities ahead, and close with a sense of connection and renewed direction.
