All of us experience moments that leave us feeling broken. What matters is how we rise, gather the pieces, and begin again. Even broken pieces can come together in a beautiful new way.

All of us experience moments that leave us feeling broken. What matters is how we rise, gather the pieces, and begin again. Tear or shred the papers and keepsakes you've held onto without knowing why, and layer them into a new work on paper or wood panel that tells your story.

“After two sessions I finally had a plan for my studio time instead of a guilty pile of unfinished work. Sharon listens like an artist and thinks like a strategist.”

08Meet your teacher
I studied art education at NYU, then detoured through the corporate world of sales and real estate. When I came back to the studio, I brought the rusted metal, weathered wood and salvaged scraps of that world with me.
I've founded an artist-run gallery in Austin, started a society for encaustic painters, shown nationally and held residencies at VCCA and Brush Creek. But one of the things I care about is helping people keep their art practice alive.
I've had studios in San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, Houston, Austin and Fort Worth, and now in Brooklyn.

Torn paper, ledger pages, burlap and the marks of daily life, layered into something whole.

10From the studio table
Scroll faster, it keeps up. A glimpse of work, classes and moments from Sharon's studio and students.

I brought a box of old letters I could never throw away. Two hours later they were a piece I've hung by my front door.
Assemblage from the Soul asked me 'where did I go?' I didn't expect a sculpture made of my mother's buttons to answer it.
I hadn't made anything in twenty years. Four sessions with Sharon and I have a studio corner, a plan, and a much quieter inner critic.
